Clean up on aisle 5: Tips for improving your online reputation management!

Image
You may have heard “clean up on aisle 5”? It’s a common announcement in grocery stores when there is a spill or a mess that needs to be taken care of. But what if the mess is not on the floor but on your social media profile? We aren’t talking about the kid spilling cereal on the floor, but the shelf of tomato sauce crashing to the floor. It is a real mess. When was your last social media cleanup? We are all guilty of sharing things on social media in the heat of the moment. From politics and social issues to personal dramas, we can post things we later regret.  If you’ve shared anything inappropriate, offensive, or embarrassing, it’s wise to address it before it negatively affects your reputation, relationships, or career. Recruiters or potential clients can dismiss you immediately, never bothering to review your qualifications if what you have posted seems offensive. Trolls can attack you and further muddy your profile with additional negative posts. Here are some tips on ...

CLEAN UP ON AISLE 5: YOUR MESSY SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE

Image
Have you heard the phrase "clean up on aisle 5" over the loudspeaker at your local grocery store? It's a call to action to tidy up a messy part of the store, and a great analogy for your social media presence. I responded to questions on my local neighborhood Facebook group. Within an hour a couple of my pages received likes. Well, that’s good I thought until I realized the pages were out of date. There were former sites, old emails, and phone numbers. The headers were sad and no new posts in a long time. Ouch. If you've been neglecting them for a while, they may have become cluttered with outdated information, irrelevant posts, and even embarrassing content. If that's the case, it's time to clean up on aisle 5! Here are some tips to get you starte...

Five Ideas for Incorporating Writing into Your Daily Routine

Image
“I love being a writer. What I can't stand is the paperwork.”  - Peter De Vries If you're looking to make writing a more consistent part of your daily routine, here are five ideas to get you started. Don’t try all at once. Test them out for a couple of weeks, a month, a year. Routines take time. I will confess up front that I am not a consistent writer. I write in bursts of creative inspiration, which is different from my writing for work which means deadlines. I am a poet and essayist, with some prose and fiction. I don’t carve out the time to yank the words out and toss them on paper to see what happens. I don’t give myself the deadlines I do for work. However, do what works for you. These ideas are suggestions to kickstart your routine. Write in the morning . Many writers find that starting their day with a bit of writing can set a productive tone for the rest of the day. Try setting aside dedicated writing time first thing in the morning, before you check your emails or s...

Are you afraid of technology?

I spent my lunch hour listening to a seminar on, "Is AI About to REPLACE Human Writers? Join Us for a Very Special Briefing with FIVE of the Industry’s TOP Experts and Discover the Answers You NEED Right Now" Whoa. A long title, right? It featured copywriters and marketers who weighed in on how artificial intelligence (AI) will affect all of us. The conversation was narrowed to ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot developed by OpenAI. It uses advanced language processing algorithms to generate human-like responses to user inputs. The chatbot is trained on a massive amount of text data and can answer questions, have conversations, and even generate text on its own. ChatGPT is designed to be integrated with other applications through APIs, allowing developers to add conversational capabilities to their products and services. OK, I asked ChatGPT to explain itself and the above is the answer. If you are interested, GPT stands for generative pre-training transformer. This is why I rely ...
