Becoming a Published Kindle Author
A Senior's Guide to Finding the Right Business Model for Your Content Creativity - Part Three
Becoming a Published Kindle Author
Some people prefer to take the route of becoming a published
author as opposed to selling courses, which is what most info products are. You
can have your own nonfiction or fiction book placed on Amazon, Barnes &
Noble, and other platforms under your own name or a pen name of your choosing.
The great thing for seniors about becoming a
published author on Amazon Kindle is that it doesn’t cost you anything upfront.
As long as you can open Microsoft Word and create your file to upload, you will
be on the path to success.
You will need to create a cover, but there are free tools and
templates that you can use to do that. Or, you can outsource the cover creation
to a graphic designer on Fiverr
or Upwork. You can also create your own
cover on Canva.
It does take approximately 60 days from the date
of the sale to get paid on any Amazon Kindle sales that you earn. But if you
continue publishing a series, your income should snowball into something more
significant month after month.
You can take a look at the bestseller list to see what kinds
of non-fiction topics are trending in the marketplace. For example, if you
wanted to write self-help, then you might find a slew of books about creating
better habits or how to gain more mental strength.
Many seniors like the idea of becoming a fiction
author on Amazon, too. There are many self-published bestselling authors on
this marketplace and elsewhere. Many of them hit the New York Times bestseller
list as well as the USA Today bestseller list.
There are many books that can teach you how to write to
market so that you are able to easily tap into a genre of your choice and build
a loyal audience ready to scoop up each new book in your series time after
time.
If you do want to pursue the fiction route,
you’ll need to choose a genre that you feel you can write well. Many people
choose the same genre that they like to read. But that’s not always the case.
You can also become an author in more than one genre if you
feel like it. You are allowed multiple pen names on Amazon, so readers would
never know if you wanted to write both romance and horror.
Regardless of which path you choose, nonfiction
or fiction, much of your success will depend on the business aspect of what you
do after your work is published. For example, you will want to generate
interest in your books, go on blog tours for authors, utilize social media
effectively, and more.
You will possibly even want to learn how to run paid ads to
further grow your success. Many authors use ads on Facebook and Amazon for
their sales boosts. Others try to secure a BookBub
deal that will send a flood of sales on a certain day.
You will get lots of information by visiting Amazon’s publishing site. Self-publish eBooks and paperbacks for free with Kindle Direct Publishing, and reach millions of readers on Amazon. Self Publishing | Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing
